Philadelphian James Forten was leading the fight for equal rights 200 years ago with the publication of his “Letters from a Man of Color” in 1813.

Anniversaries of historical events, such as last week’s observance of the 1963 March on Washington, get us thinking about the past and present. They prod us to reflect on the choices we make, the values we espouse, the dreams that have been realized, and the ones that have not.
